Throughout his extensive educational and coaching career, John Schmidt has worked alongside many past Hall of Fame Inductees, serving as a fellow educator, receiving mentorship from Athletic Directors, and collaborating on coaching staffs. His significant commitment to the Alexandria community and its athletes is reflected in his long and varied service:
Timeline of Service to Alexandria District 206:
- 1980: Hired to teach Jr. High Social Studies in Alexandria.
- 1980 – 1994: Coached 7th, 8th, & 9th Grade Boys’ Basketball.
- 1980 – 1982: Coached Jr. High Track.
- 1980 – 2007: Served as 9th Grade Assistant Football Coach and Varsity Scout.
- 1982 – 1991: Coached Alexandria Summer Recreation T-Ball.
- 1989: Recognized as Alexandria District 206 Teacher of the Year.
- 1994 – 2007: Served as Discovery Middle School Boys’ Tennis Coach.
- 2003 – 2008: Coached Alexandria Girls’ Traveling Basketball.
- 2008 – 2023: Served as Boys’ and Girls’ Assistant Varsity Tennis Coach.
- 2012 and 2015: Achieved recognition as Section 8AA Assistant Girls’ Coach of the Year and State Assistant Girls’ Coach of the Year
- 2013 – 2014: Coached Discovery 6th Grade Boys’ Basketball.
- 2013 – Present (2026): Serves as an Alexandria Cardinal Host and Game Manager.
- 2019: Was Assistant Coach (under Head Coach Dave Ronning) for the Boys’ Tennis team that secured their first-ever Section 8AA Championship and State Participant status.
John Schmidt has a profound history of shaping Cardinal athletes and positively impacting the Alexandria community. He continues his legacy by volunteering courtside, cheering from the sidelines, and making ongoing positive contributions as a Cardinal Host and Game Manager.
